Mentoring has been used for centuries as a way to nurture an individual’s development through imparting wisdom and knowledge. Business Mentors have the real ‘coal face’ experience to put at the disposal of fellow entrepreneurs who have a gap in their knowledge or skills.

Programme Manager, Rachel Cheetham, describes business mentoring as ‘having a friend in business. Someone who has ‘been there, done that’ and now wants to help others learn from their own experience of the highs and lows of business, everything from major organisational restructures to simply needing to find a way to generate more sales or cut costs.’

Chief Executive of Southern Enterprise Alliance, who provide the Mentor-net service, Jacky Stevens OBE, described how the original suggestion came from the not-for-profit organisation’s membership group. ‘Our members are mostly drawn from the local business community and organisations that support local businesses, so who better to understand the pressures and demands the owners of SMEs are currently facing and suggest solutions. We are delighted to be able to make their suggestion for a Business Mentoring service a reality.’

Each volunteer Business Mentor brings a wealth of experience and their own style to the service, but they all have one thing in common, a desire to help other entrepreneurs become a success.

Whether a potential Mentor or a business owner who seeks mentoring support, Mentor-net is a welcome addition to the business support available in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

If you are a business owner interested in finding a Mentor to support you or you have the experience and skills to become a volunteer Mentor, contact Mentor-net on 0845 45 86 454 or by email at info@mentor-net.co.uk.
