Need a Mentor?

Before you decide if Mentoring is the solution for you, there are some questions, both business and personal, that you need to ask yourself:

1. Do you have a problem that needs a one-off piece of advice or information? Yes No

2. Are you struggling with questions over the direction and future of your business or facing challenges and difficulties that could benefit from speaking to an experienced sounding board? Yes No

3. Do you have a good idea of how you want to develop the business but need help to get your proposition into a business plan? Yes No

4. Are you prepared to work closely with another person on the detail of your business? Yes No

5. Are you prepared to develop an action plan and committed to putting it into practice? Yes No

Our Volunteer Business Mentors

“So far, David has proved invaluable and I’m really looking forward to working with him in the future. Mentor-net, in my opinion, is possibly the best form of support service I have received since starting my company.”

Dr John Crute, The Technology Academy

“The best thing Business Link did was tell us about Mentor-net. Have a fantastic mentor and things are moving in a newer, bigger and more exciting direction.”

MB, New Forest

“….we’ve had the initial meeting with our Mentor and we got on with him really well and spent two hours going over a lot of stuff! He’s agreed to meet us agani on the back of us getting some more information over to him and then we’ll go from there.

I think he’s a great guy and helped focus my mind and my business partner’s.”

GV, Waterlooville

“I found working with my mentor incredibly useful. I had lots of ideas but was finding it hard to put them into practice. Having someone to sit down and work with me individually, to share successes and knock-backs with, and who was interested and supportive has made a tremendous difference.

As a result of working with my mentor I developed systems for marketing and budgeting that really work for me and my business. Not only do I feel more in control of my business but I have seen tangible business results. I highly recommend it.”

Charlotte Baker, Undine Coaching, www.undinecoaching.com

Our Mentors are either recently retired or currently established business people with a unique blend of business and life experience. They benefit from having ‘been there and done that’ and they are willing and keen to share their skills, knowledge and networks with other existing businesses on a voluntary basis.

When you request a Mentor we take time to try and find the right match of skills, experience and personality. This may mean a delay before you are introduced to a suitable person, but we find it is important to ensure we get the right ‘fit’ so that you and the Mentor have an effective working relationship from day one.

How much does Mentor-net cost?

The first introductory meeting with a potential mentor is always free of charge to give you the chance to discover more about the Mentor and discuss your needs and expectations.

When you decide to commit to mentoring there is a £100 set up fee to pay and you will then buy a bank of hours, normally 24 hours at £25 per hour, from which you will draw down time with your Mentor, as and when you need it, within a 12 month period. Payment can either be up-front or by monthly direct debit of £50 plus VAT.

By working in this way it allows you to tailor the time you spend with your Mentor to your needs, ensuring you get the most value possible from your time together.

Any hours you don’t use we will either refund any money you have paid or raise a credit against anything outstanding on your invoice.

Why do we charge?

Mentor-net is a not-for-profit organisation and like any business incurs costs in its running. Whilst our Mentors are all volunteers and give generously of their time, we need to invest in their development and support. We also need to ensure that our clients receive an efficient and effective service; a service that will be here for the long term.

We are also actively seeking further investment and funding from other sources and partners to ensure we can provide this type of support to small businesses for the long term.
